5 Awesome Crowdfunding Tips for Success
July 09, 2013

Hi,

Crowdfunding is fast becoming a mainstream form of fundraising and it really does provide a fantastic way of raising funds fast!

If you are unsure about what Crowdfunding is...

It is simply the acquiring of donations from a "crowd" of people through an online fundraising page. Usually setup on Crowdfunding platform like Go Fund Me. It provides a simple, quick and easy way for people to donate to a cause.

It also provides a platform that is easy to promote the fundraiser off, and that is easy for your supporters to promote as well.

But like all fundraisers it has to be done correctly for it to be a success.

SO...

Here are 5 tips to make you Crowdfunding more Successful:

1. Create an AWESOME Campaign Page:

Your first step is to create the most amazing fundraising page! It should connect emotionally with your potential donors and make them absolutely have to donate to your cause.

It needs to be passionate, emotional and inspiring. Whenever someone lands on your fundraising page they must say, "WOW, this is such an amazing cause!"

Get this right and all you'll need to do, to be successfully funded, is make sure that loads of people arrive at your page (see point 3).

Read part two of the Online Donations articles to learn how to setup an effective and AWESOME page.

2. Use a Video:

Research shows that campaigns with videos raise 114% more on average than campaigns without a video! (Stats provided by IndieGoGo.)

So definitely use a short, sharp and emotive video to tell the story of your cause, and why people just have to donate to you!

3. Promote - Promote- PROMOTE:

The more people who are exposed to your Crowdfunding campaign, the more potential funding you can receive.

SO quite simply, this is the most IMPORTANT part of your fundraiser.

You have to have a clear strategy for promoting your campaign.

And make sure that all your promotions are intriguing, passionate, emotional, and inspiring... Just like your page needs to be. Your promotions should inspire people to click through to your fundraising page with the intention to donate already!

4. Focus Your Promotions Initially on Your Circle of Influence:

The people most likely to donate to your cause are in your circle of influence. Your Friends, Family, and Colleagues, etc.

So start there and get the ball rolling. Ensure that as many of them sponsor you and share your campaign to all their friends through Social Media and emails, etc.

5. And lastly for Charities - Encourage Supporters to Individually Crowdfund for Your Organization:

This is something I believe not enough Charities are doing. Instead of sending out donation request to your mail lists, send out a request for your supporters to raise funds for you.

Make them the hero of your cause... By giving them an opportunity to raise big funds, instead of only being able to donate a little!

You first need to register with a Crowdfunding platform like Go Fund Me as a Charity and then supporters will be able to allocate you as the beneficiary of their fundraisers!

Then I recommend you focus this on specific projects...

Let's say you need funds to build a new extension on your building. Message your supporters asking them who wants to be hero of this need.

Give them some direction as to what Platform to use and how to setup and promote etc. Also give them sponsorship ideas like doing a sponsored cycle or a sponsored swim.

Find those that want to and then help them promote their pages.

People love supporting a cause and receiving recognition for it! This way they get to be the centre of attention instead of just being another donor...

And you get to tap into their circle of friends and networks for funding and new supporters!
