Issue #010 - Build a Following Through Memberships!

Build a Following Through Memberships:

Effective fundraising starts with a solid following or supporters base. So start building it through members...

The best way to build a following/supporter base is through official memberships. Encourage people to become official members or official supporters of your organization.

They pay a membership fee and should receive a membership pin etc. Explain that the membership fee goes towards the organization. Obviously this is generic advice and there will be specifics to your type of organization that you will need to consider.

For example a Church is all about memberships and it is essentially one of the main focuses. Where a Children's home is about the children and outside supporter memberships is another consideration all together!

But here is what a membership will do:

  • Provides "plugged in" and proud supporters who have shown their willingness to help out by signing up.

  • Builds a mailing list to send your newsletter to and to send out fundraising letters and donor request.

  • Provides a group of people to find volunteers through.

  • Provides a base to work from when trying to build followings on social media platforms.

  • Will provide a fundraising method as supporters pay a small fee to become a member.

So if you're a new Non-Profit or haven't set up a membership (or official supporter) program yet, now is the time to start setting it up.

Obviously you'll need a few ways of gaining members:

  • Start by approaching people within your circle of influence - Friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances.

  • Then as you start promoting your cause through various methods, offer info on how people can join your organization membership.

  • Have a joining method on your Website or Blog, and through your Facebook page.

  • At your events, and other events, have a stand displaying the great work your organization does and encourage people to join up with you.

Thanks!

Learning Resources:

Here's a webinar you don't want to miss! Years ago when I was working as a waiter in the UK my manager was brilliant at taking care of all the staff (waiters, shefs... everyone), keeping us happy, and keeping us motivated.

This environment created amazing working conditions where everyone worked together to get the best results and to make sure all the customers were looked after properly. The manager understood how important we were to the success of the restaurant... And the same goes for your volunteers:

And that's why "Mega-Fundraising Through the Care and Feeding of Volunteers" is a webinar that you do not want to miss out on!!! It's at 1pm eastern time on Thursday, May 10. Book the time in your Diary now!

Then today you can learn "How to Create a Nonprofit Annual Report people will actually read" at 1pm EST.

Next week Tuesday you will want to book into this New Webinar on "Outrageously Successful Fundraising: Raise Money Without Asking!"

And if you haven't bought "90 Donors in 100 Days" yet, it's time you do.

And that's it for this week...

I really hope you have enjoyed reading the Fundraiser Buzz! weekly report, and I look forward to producing the next addition.

So do you have any...
