There Once Was a Kid... Who Had a Dream
May 26, 2016

There once was a kid...

Who had a dream. That dream was to be a filmmaker. So he applied to Film School, got in, but couldn't afford it.

He didn't want to give up on his dream, so he started Fundraising...

His first Fundraiser was a little crazy. He decided to ride 300 miles in 36 hours, and get people to sponsor his challenge!!!!

And phewwww! It was one hell of a challenge.

Yes, you may have guessed it, that kid was me...

And thankfully it only took me 26 hours to finish it, 'cause I would not have lasted any longer in the saddle. It was honestly the most tiring and challenging experience I have ever had.

But wow, I felt such an incredible sense of accomplishment when I reached that finish line!

Although the fundraiser, and the consequent fundraisers, were to a degree, a success; I was unfortunately unable to raise enough to get me to film school.

But...

The whole process has proved invaluable to me: I learnt so much, gained a huge amount of experience; and was able to refine my fundraising knowledge to which I have put to use on this website.

(And just so you know, I am still pursuing my dream! But that's a story for another time.)

I do however...

...wish I had done that fundraiser with the knowledge I have now!

I would have raised 10x more!

And only with a couple of changes:

One, I would have done it within a PROPERLY SET UP Crowdfunding Campaign.

And Two, I would have put together a proper promotions strategy that focused on the people I knew first, instead of just doing "hope marketing", and "sharing" my fundraiser, without focus.

So if you ever want to do a fundraiser like this PROPERLY:

Make sure you read my article on it here.

AND then take your time to plan and setup...

1. Your challenge, 2. Your donation page, 3. And your marketing strategy.

If you have any comments, questions, or further suggestions... Then feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of that page!

Thanks again.
