2. Idea in the Spotlight:

Dueling Pianos Fundraiser

This is such a fun event and it will create a really enjoyable evening out for your supporters!

It's fitting for almost every type of organization and will ultimately raise great funds (if run effectively; see the next article!).

It's a dinner fundraiser where the entertainment will be two pianists who duel it out to see who can play the best, the most creative, the fastest, or the weirdest etc.

You then raise funds through ticket sales, sponsorships, raffles and auctions, drink sales, fundraising product sales like Apparel, and simple on-table donations!

Be organized, sell the event out, and promote your additional fundraisers effectively, and you'll have a killer fundraising evening!

3. Tips & Techniques:

Success? It's Not The Fundraiser...

You may be scratching your head by what I mean with that statement. But simply put...

It's not necessarily what type of fundraiser you do that will make your fundraising effort successful, but rather how you do that fundraiser.

For example let's take the simple, overused, and rather boring Car Wash Fundraiser. A fundraiser that is often used to raise a couple hundred dollars over the weekend... Successful? Well, arguably! For me, with the amount of effort and time it would take to organize and run that car wash, NO, not really successful!

But what if you had to run it a bit differently, a bit better, a bit more effective? What if you added or changed a few small things to the fundraiser?

You could make it so more effective!

Like for example what if instead of just sending out a fundraising letter to your supporters telling them about your Car Wash this weekend, why don't you sell car wash vouchers through a small team of volunteers before the actual day. That way you will have a guarantee of funds raised come the day whether the supporters rock up to get their cars washed or not!

Then what about offering refreshments and other fundraising items for sale while people get their cars washed. Cool drinks and sweets like lollipops and chocolates, or even your Organization's Apparel.

So now, instead of just raising funds from the car wash sales of the few people who rock up to get their cars washed on the day, you will have already raised funds from your pre-wash sales (whether they arrive to have their car washed or not). Plus you will increase you bottom line of funds raised from sales of refreshments and other products. Already your funds raised would be far more than through an ordinarily run car wash.

Then you could also ask people to fill out a survey while they wait and gather some useful information that will help with fundraising efforts later on.

Now the success at your simple Car Wash Fundraiser is taking on a whole level!

So that is a really simple and basic example. The point is though that whatever fundraiser you do, will be successful, not necessarily because of the type of fundraiser, but rather by how you run that fundraiser.

So be creative with your fundraising. Make sure you use your fundraisers effectively and get the most you can from them (not only in monetary terms; information is as important for future campaigns).

So think out of the box and go make those fundraisers successful!
